Third entry! goin strong

I do not remember where I left off, so I´ll just start typing.

Classes are great! I mean, I like the professors and honestly I don´t mind the work, I just don´t like waking up early. But I get enough sleep to make me feel like I´m in a daze most of the time anyway so it´s fine. Siesta will be the death of me. I hope my body doesn´t become dependent on all this relaxing and enjoying because life just shouldn´t be this fair.

Sarah´s birthday was really, really, really fun, to say the least. We all got tapas and sang Happy Birthday in 4 different languages (English, Spanish, Polish, Farsi, don´t ask) and she blew out the candles on the table because we didn´t have birthday ones (I´m a bad roommate). We went out to several places and I ended up paying way too much for roses from one of those men who go around selling roses at bars to make magic happen between couples. Now they don´t leave me alone (though maybe it´s mental, or Dave always tapping them and telling them I want roses).

Anyway! Life in Granada isn´t all fun. Sarah and I decided to commit ourselves to running in the park nearby because we felt bad for being so...just so. First time was great. Second time was terribly painful. But we´re being active! And maybe working off the unrealistically large lunches we have everyday...though part of me thinks that isn´t possible.

Next Tuesday we´re going mountain biking. This weekend (I might have said this before) is Nerja & La Alpujarra. Today is the first cloudy day I´ve seen and I´m in shock. Hopefully it doesn´t stay for the weekend!

We found out there´s free wifi on this specific bench at the park so we´re going to try it out. Maybe skyping is possible?

There´s more, like last night we went to a reggae place, tonight there´s a rock concert our professor told us about that we may venture to. Our host mom´s grandchildren visited with her daughter (4 year old boy and 2 month year old baby) and they might have been the most beautiful children I´ve ever seen, no lie. All I wanted to do was photograph that boy. Unfortunately I wasn´t able to. But oh my god he was adorable.

One thing funny about Spain is even though I often think of it as a religious country, as far as liberal ideals go, it is far ahead of the States. Gay marriage is cool, prostitution is cool, marijuana is cool. Our host mom´s grandboy (not really a word but I can´t think of it) was showing us pictures of him at the beach and he was naked in all of them. There were a few of his mom breast feeding. One of her naked and pregnant. I wasn´t sure if I should have felt awkward, but I tried to play it cool with a lot of "o que precioso!"s.

It´s really cool just being here and actually seeing everything we´re learning about in our culture class. Honestly an irreplicable experience. I don´t think irreplicable is a word either.

My Spanish varies by the day. Sometimes I can understand basically everything Mami lets flow out, and other times it´s just a mesh of funny sounds. Overall I do think I´m improving though. I´m excited to see other parts of Spain.

The end
